I was driving down the road heading to an Alpharetta home inspection and saw a sign at the entrance of one of John Wielands neighborhoods. The sign said “Yes You Can” and that got me to thinking…..

As an Atlanta home inspector, one of the things that I look for on every home inspection that I do is the gutters and where they are dumping the water. The last thing you want is the water ending up right against your foundation.
Gutter maintenance is very important and you want to keep your gutter and downspouts clear of all debris and check for any damage or separations that would prevent water from flowing properly through them. Rainwater spilling out on a concentrated area can create low places in your grade and allow water to concentrate against your foundation wall and in time can deteriorate the concrete or concrete block joints. It will also start seeping through cracks in your basement wall and cause a basement leak.
Where the water exits at the bottom of the downspout is a critical area. It must be allowed to flow away from the foundation. This can consist of a simple splash block or a drain pipe as needed. Make sure that your splash block is doing it’s job properly.

Atlanta home inspector shares another home inspection find

As an Atlanta home inspector it is my job to look closing at every detail whe
n doing a home inspection, but in this case I didn’t have to look to hard (and neither would you) to see the problem. Now when I say problem, I don’t mean that as this is a problem and that you should abandoned ship (or worse yet house) what I mean is this is really a simple little thing that if you’re not interested in sitting on your lower deck and perhaps getting wet, then I would finish out the gutter to the ground. Of course there are other reasons to go ahead and finish the gutter to the ground, but when I am talking with you as a client, I like to lighten things up and have a little fun. The only time I get real serious is when it is a safety issue and it’s going to put you or your family at risk. Then I’m all serious. We are all the time taking our kids to the Sequoyah Regional Library and I just read in the All Around Town Magazine that the library has new hours.
New Hours are as follows:
Monday – Thursday: 9:00 am – 8 pm
Friday and Saturday 9 am – 5 pm
Sunday 2 – 6 pm
Also the libraries will be closed Friday, April 10 and Sunday April, 12.

As an North Georgia home inspector I am amazed at peoples thinking or lack of. You see, thousands of homes are listed for sale every year in North Georgia. Most of the homes for sale are older homes and many of them may not have been properly maintained. When thinking of buying a home, it would seem obvious that the home buyer would actually demand a home inspection. Sadly, however, many homes are purchased without the buyer ever even contacting a home inspector.
Georgia Home inspections are not nearly as expensive as you may think they are but the cost of not having your next home inspected by a certified home inspector may be very great. One water leak can damage walls, floor coverings and content and cost tens of thousands of dollars to repair. Of course by then the Georgia home inspector, who did not perform your Georgia home inspection, cannot do anything to save your home –or your belongings. And if you have gotten your good buddy to take a look at the home, then more than likely he’s not going to be able to help you out either.
Home inspections, at least those performed properly by a certified home inspector, often find problems in areas where the home owner would never go. Many Georgia home inspectors, let alone home owners, will not walk the roof or go into the crawl space. How would they ever find a budding problem which could turn your home dreams into a nightmare? Interview your home inspector and ask for references from former clients. Getting a Georgia home inspection really should not be an option.
